Cooking Goals
Functional skills program
What is it?
Cooking Goals is designed to help participants develop essential functional life skills while also building confidence working as part of a team. The program focuses on teaching the principles of meal preparation, organisation, time management, and social skills in a practical, engaging way.
Working in small groups, participants:
- Follow step-by-step instructions to prepare a meal
- Learn and practise safe food handling and preparation techniques — from chopping vegetables to cooking and plating
- Manage time and tasks as a group to ensure the meal is ready together
- Share the finished meal with their peers, encouraging conversation, cooperation, and social connection
The group setting helps participants learn how to:
- Take turns and share responsibilities
- Problem-solve and adapt together
- Support each other’s strengths and needs in the kitchen
By the end of the term, each participant will have their own budget-friendly recipe book containing the meals they’ve made — a great resource to share with friends and family at home.
Cooking Goals is facilitated by our Therapy and/or Mentor Teams and can be funded through an NDIS Plan under the appropriate categories.
