Day Activity Groups

A weekly gathering for our Adult Group, with the goals of socialising, engaging in planned activities and events, and improve social and communications skills over time.

What to expect during the session

Adult Day Options Program

The Adult Day Options Program runs throughout the year every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at our Community House in Hackham. This welcoming and fully gated property sits on nearly an acre of land, providing a safe, private, and accessible environment. The house is equipped with all the necessary facilities, and at the back of the property is a Sensory Hub featuring computers, sensory equipment, and dedicated spaces for quiet time or focused activities.

The program offers a supportive and enriching environment for adults with disabilities, focusing on skill development, independence, and active participation in meaningful activities.

Participants enjoy a structured yet flexible schedule that includes:

  • Farm-based experiences – hands-on animal care, feeding, and farm maintenance.
  • Creative and sensory activities – arts, crafts, gardening, and tactile experiences.
  • Cooking group – planning, preparing, and sharing simple, healthy meals to build life skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Computer classes – learning basic computer skills, using technology for communication, creativity, and accessing information safely.
  • Horse riding activities – developing confidence, balance, and coordination through guided horse handling, grooming, and riding sessions.
  • Physical activity – gentle exercise, nature walks, and outdoor games.
  • Social connection – group projects, shared meals, and collaborative tasks.
  • Community outings – visits to local attractions, markets, and recreational spaces.

Indoor alternatives for rainy or hot days include engaging documentaries, music and movement sessions, simple cooking projects, and varied arts and crafts activities tailored to individual interests.

Friday Adult Social Group

Our Friday Adult Social Group runs 10:00 am to 3:00 pm each week and is a well-established, peer-led program. Adult participants take the lead, deciding once a term what activities they would like to enjoy together.

The group focuses on building friendships, exploring new experiences, and enjoying a variety of social, recreational, and community-based activities.

Examples of activities include:

  • Cooking together – preparing and sharing meals as a group.
  • Ten-pin bowling – a fun and social outing.
  • Going to the movies – enjoying the latest films together.
  • Visiting the farm – hands-on time with animals and the outdoors.
  • Day trips – exploring Victor Harbor, McLaren Vale, and other scenic locations.
  • Botanic Gardens – enjoying nature walks and picnics.
  • Art Gallery of South Australia – discovering exhibitions and creative inspiration.
  • South Australian Museum – exploring history, science, and culture.
  • Adelaide Zoo – meeting wildlife from Australia and around the world.
  • Beach outings – Glenelg, Henley, or Semaphore for fish and chips, ice cream, and seaside fun.
  • Markets – visiting Adelaide Central Market or Willunga Farmers Market for food and crafts.

This flexible and participant-driven format ensures everyone has a voice in planning the term’s adventures, creating a fun and inclusive environment
