Call for EOIs – Conference Management Committee
Occupational Therapy Australia is now seeking a call for Nominations/Applications for the following roles as part of the overall Conference Management Committee of the Occupational Therapy Australia 28th National Conference and Exhibition to be held 10-12 July 2019 in Sydney:
- Local Representative x 1 (NSW)
- National Representative x 1
- New Graduate x 1
The deadline for applications is MONDAY 29 JANUARY 2018.
The Convenor of the Conference is Dr Mandy Stanley from University of South Australia.
The Conference Management Committee (CMC) consists of in-house OTA staff and volunteers including:
- CEO
- OTA Conference Management Team
- National CPD Manager
- Board Member
- Convenor
- Scientific Program Chair
- National Representative
- NSW Representative (Local)
- New Graduate Member
The roles and responsibilities of the CMC include:
- Determine key dates and adhere to a realistic critical path
- Ensure strategic objectives are met
- Bring innovative ideas to the table
- Contribute to all monthly conference management committee teleconference meetings
- Assist with marketing strategies to promote the Conference
- Provide details of key stakeholders for Sponsorship and Exhibition sales and review the prospectus
- Act as Occupational Therapy Australia 2019 National Conference “ambassadors”
- Assist with coordinating onsite activities including however not limited to:
hosting the Keynote speakers, availability as a stand in session chair, chairing plenary session/s; thanking exhibitors, attendance at the opening, closing, keynotes and social events - Contribute to the evaluation of the OTA National Conference
Members of the CMC serve in their personal capacity. Candidates are selected based on their standing in the Australian Occupational Therapy community with due regard for region and areas of expertise.
CMC Members are supported by the OTA Conference Management team.
*Committee meetings are usually held monthly for 1-1.5 hours via video/teleconference. The first meeting of the Conference Management Committee is scheduled for Thursday 8 March, 2018.
Note: Applicants should be aware that an active role at the CMC requires a certain and flexible time commitment, but will be mutually beneficial for both the candidate and the conference.
Selection criteria for the National Representative and Local Representative (NSW) include:
- Current member of Occupational Therapy Australia
- Have attended a previous National Conference
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrated high standard of oral and written communication skills, time management, and organisational skills to ensure effective teamwork
- Able to attend monthly teleconferences and possibly one face to face meeting
Desirable
- Previous experience in and current knowledge of contributing to the planning and delivery of a conference or other professional development event.
- Experience/insight/awareness related to current and future topics or issues important for occupational therapy practice, education and research
Selection criteria for the New Graduate includes:
- Current member of Occupational Therapy Australia
- Have attended a previous National Conference
- Minimum 6-12 months’ work experience in Occupational Therapy
Application Procedure
All nominations are considered by the CEO and Convenor. Based on their recommendations the Conference Executive Management Committee will appoint CMC members. To be nominated, the candidate should send the following items (as Word files) by email to Rebecca Meyer:
- A cover letter addressed to the Occupational Therapy Australia National Conference Convenor, Dr Mandy Stanley
- The selection criteria
- The nominee’s summary CV (max. 2 x A4 pages) including contact details for two referees
